 | Rico Goldstone Selects Navy The two year journey of college recruiting has been quite a ride for Rico Goldstone and his family. After traveling thousands of miles, attending college camps, clinics and showcases, Rico has decided to attend Navy, his number one choice. Rico was recruited for both baseball and track and field. He becomes the first All American Baseball Academy member to be recruited by one of the service academies and we are very proud of this great accomplishment. Congratulations from our staff and all of the Academy members. .jpg) Rob McCabe Signs With UMBC Rob McCabe created some very good options before selecting the University of Maryland Baltimore County. Rob will be attending UMBC on a baseball Scholarship next fall. He was pursued by schools like Shenandoah University in Virginia, Salisbury University in Maryland, as well as Stony Brook in New York. Rob was impressed with the coaches and the athletic facilities at the UMBC campus. U.S. News and World Report, recently selected UMBC as the number 1 "Up and Coming University." Rob appears to have found a great fit. The Academy members and our staff offer our congratulations to Rob and his family. Nate Simon Selects Gettysburg! Abington Friends Senior, Nate Simon, had many offers to consider before deciding to attend Gettysburg College. Schools like Suquehanna, McDaniel, Guilford, and Ithaca, all pursued Nate for the last year. One of the hardest working players to come through the Academy program, Nate is a perfectionist with a passion. In addition to being a great ballplayer, Nate is an excellent student. Gettysburg will be a perfect match for a student athlete like Nate. The Academy members and staff, offer Nate and his family, our congratulations and all the best, this coming season and through what we hope will be a very productive college career. Tommy Coyle In case anybody is wondering how Tommy Coyle is doing at the University of North Carolina, take note of the results below, featuring the stats from the Tarheels inter-squad World Series. Some of the most talented pitchers in college baseball faced their own team mates and the results speak for themselves! Here are the cumulative batting averages: BLUE Tommy Coyle 0.429 Brian Goodwin 0.353 Dillon Hazlett 0.174 Ryan Graepel 0.364 Seth Baldwin 0.333 Jacob Stallings 0.158 Brett Thomas 0.133 Brett Knief 0.300 Jeff May 0.111 TOTALS 0.267 WHITE Mike Cavasinni 0.278 Ben Bunting 0.412 Levi Michael 0.278 Jesse Wierzbicki 0.538 Chaz Frank 0.200 Tarron Robinson 0.200 Greg Holt 0.316 Matt Harrison 0.167 Josh Leemhuis 0.125 TOTALS 0.273 TEAM TOTAL 0.270 RICO GOLDSTONE SETS NEW RECORD AT PERFECT GAME SOUTHEAST TOP PROSPECT SHOWCASE On September 12/13 2009, All American Baseball Academy player, Rico Goldstone, an excellent student athlete, from Parkland High School, attended the 2009 Perfect Game Southeast Top Prospect Showcase, at the East Cobb Complex, in Marietta, Georgia. Rico performed well making a statement with his bat, his defensive skills and a spectacular catch in center field. The ground was a bit soggy on Saturday and the times for the 60 yard dash were slow, so it was decided to run them again on Sunday. That's when Rico and Andrew Toles both ran a 6.40 (60 yard dash) breaking the old record set by Jason Aylesworth in 2006 (6.53). Congratulations from the entire Academy staff on a great performance! This is truly an event to be remembered for a lifetime. Sean Coyle in Venezuala playing for the USA 18U Team October 3, 2009 18U Team trips Cuba to take gold Gold medal First for 18U program in a Pan Ams event SEAN COYLE SELECTED TO PLAY FOR TEAM USA 18U TEAM IN BARQUISIMETO, VENEZUELA Tommy Coyle and his younger brother started training at the All American Baseball Academy when they were summer campers ages 7 and 8 years old. Since that time, both have developed exceptional tools and have participated in some of the highest profile baseball events in the country. Tommy is now the starting second baseman at Top ranked UNC, Chapel Hill, NC. and Sean has also committed to play for the Tar Heels next year. What are the odds that two brothers from southeastern PA would both capture spots on the Tar Heels roster? But that's not all! Recently, Sean was selected to play for the USA 18U team in Barquisimeto, Venezuela. Our Academy members can all take heart in these achievements because it goes to show how far you can go if you dedicate yourself to your goal and stay with a proven program. Sean has been working with the USA team for weeks and his roommate is none other than Bryce Harper (of Sports Illustrated and Youtube fame). The continuing success of our members is a testament to our staff, the All American organization and community. We hope the exceptional opportunities these two fine young men have created, are only the beginning of long and rewarding baseball careers. September 18, 2009 18U National Team roster announced Harper, Pfeifer among the 16U returners on the squad • 18U National Team roster » • 18U National Team Trials statistics » DURHAM, N.C. -- USA Baseball announced the 20-man roster for its 2009 18U National Team on Friday following a six-day trials period held between the National Training Complex (NTC) in Cary, N.C., and Doak Field on the North Carolina State University (NCSU) campus in Raleigh. The team will continue to train in North Carolina from Sept. 18-23, rotating between the NTC, NCSU, Pitt Community College (Winterville, N.C.) and Louisburg College (Louisburg, N.C.). The U.S. will depart Sept. 24 for Barquisimeto, Venezuela, where it will look to secure its first gold medal in the COPABE "AAA" (18U) Pan American Junior Championships from Sept. 25-Oct. 4. The 18U National Team competes in two major biennial events -- the International Baseball Federation (IBAF) "AAA" (18U) World Junior Championships and the Pan Am Championships. The latter serves as the qualifier for the ensuing year's World Championships. "While selecting the final roster for a National Team is never easy, I am confident that we selected a group of players that will help us bring home the gold from Venezuela," said Garye LeFevers, 18U National Team head coach and veteran of past USA Baseball National Team program coaching staffs. "We look for the right players. We told them in June that we're not necessarily taking the best names -- we're taking the best players available to help us to win in Barquisimeto." Friday's announcement completes a selection process that began in June with the Tournament of Stars, which annually brings 144 of the top 18U players in the nation together at the NTC. From there, 18U National Team administrators selected 34 players to compete in the trials. Among the final 20 players selected are seven alumni from the 2008 16U National Team program, including Cody Buckel, Nick Delmonico, Bryce Harper, Connor Mason, Ladson Montgomery, Philip Pfeifer and Tony Wolters. Last summer, the 16U team won the COPABE "AA" (16U) Pan American Youth Championships, and Harper was named the tournament's most valuable player. In addition to the seven returning alums, the roster features other athletes widely regarded among top players at the 18U level, including Jameson Taillon, Karsten Whitson, Garin Cecchini and Manny Machado. While the 18U program has seen success in the Pan Ams, recording several silver and bronze medals, the gold medal has eluded past teams. The tournament calls for wood bats to be used, which is a change from the aluminum that high school-aged players see during the school year. "With the 16U team and the aluminum bats, we've been able to produce a lot of runs -- it's not the same at this level with the wood bats," said LaFevers. "We've been working all week with the idea of playing small ball when we have to. Keeping the ball on the ground, hitting line drives, playing gap to gap, not worrying about the big home runs that we'd be capable of hitting with the aluminum bats. The wood bats certainly change the game." | No. | Name | Pos. | B-T | Ht. | Wt. | Date of Birth | School | Hometown | Class | | | Cody Buckel | RHP | R-R | 6-1 | 170 | 6/18/1992 | Royal | Simi Valley, Calif. | 2010 | | | Nick Castellanos | IF | R-R | 6-4 | 200 | 3/4/1992 | Archbishop McCarthy | Davie, Fla. | 2010 | | | Garin Cecchini | IF | L-R | 6-3 | 200 | 4/21/1991 | Barbe | Lake Charles, La. | 2010 | | | Sean Coyle | IF/OF | R-R | 5-9 | 175 | 1/17/1992 | Germantown Academy | Chalfont, Pa. | 2010 | | | Nicholas Delmonico | IF | L-R | 6-3 | 195 | 7/12/1992 | Farragut | Knoxville, Tenn. | 2011 | | | Kevin Gausman | RHP | L-R | 6-4 | 185 | 1/6/1991 | Grandview Aurora | Centennial, Colo. | 2010 | | | Cory Hahn | OF/LHP | L-L | 5-10 | 155 | 12/11/1991 | Mater Dei | Corona, Calif. | 2010 | | | Bryce Harper | C/OF | L-R | 6-3 | 205 | 10/16/1992 | College of Southern Nevada | Las Vegas, Nev. | 2011 | | | Kavin Keyes | IF | S-R | 5-10 | 175 | 4/25/1992 | Alta | Sandy, Utah | 2011 | | | Manny Machado | IF | R-R | 6-3 | 190 | 7/6/1992 | Brito Miami Private | Hialeah, Fla. | 2010 | | | Connor Mason | RHP | R-R | 6-2 | 190 | 5/26/1992 | Homeschool | Suwanee, Ga. | 2010 | | | Ladson Montgomery | C/IF | L-R | 5-9 | 170 | 3/2/1992 | Creekside | Jacksonville, Fla. | 2010 | | | Phillip Pfeifer | LHP | L-L | 6-0 | 190 | 7/15/1992 | Farragut | Knoxville, Tenn. | 2011 | | | Brian Ragira | OF | R-R | 6-2 | 185 | 1/22/1992 | Martin | Arlington, Texas | 2010 | | | Robbie Ray | LHP | L-L | 6-3 | 175 | 10/1/1991 | Brentwood | Brentwood, Tenn. | 2010 | | | Kyle Ryan | LHP | L-L | 6-3 | 170 | 9/25/1991 | Auburndale | Auburndale, Fla. | 2010 | | | Jameson Taillon | RHP | R-R | 6-6 | 225 | 11/18/1991 | The Woodlands | The Woodlands, Texas | 2010 | | | AJ Vanegas | RHP | R-R | 6-3 | 200 | 8/16/1992 | Redwood Christian | Alameda, Calif. | 2010 | | | Karsten Whitson | RHP | R-R | 6-3 | 185 | 8/25/1991 | Chipley | Bartow, Fla. | 2010 | | | Tony Wolters | IF | L-R | 5-10 | 165 | 6/9/1992 | Rancho Buena Vista | Vista, Calif. | 2010 | NEW DARTFISH PROGRAMS FOR THE SUMMER ARE COMING SOON!
